An hour to walk properly on both reins! We got there in the end, and then we did some wild walk to canter, then settled to some nice walk/canter/walk. He has always found canter/walk easy for some unknown reason. I guess because his canter is so naturally engaged. I tried for a flying change, got it first time though late behind. But it was fun out in the bright spring sunshine and he certainly has spring in his step!
Ace had a nice hack, also in the blazing sunshine. He was covered in sudocrem on the hind pasterns because after going all through the winter with no problem, he has suddenly broken out in a load of mud fever. The scabs are all off - sudocrem is good at that - and the sunshine today should help a lot. I still have an old pot of dermobion if need be, that always knocks it on the head.
Woody did a short hack today too and will do a longer one tomorrow if this one has no ill effects. He seems pretty much sound on the road, certainly not lame in any obvious way.
I found an injury which may account for his lameness after the lorry fiasco - a knock on the tendon on the right hind that was completely undetectable until a patch of hair fell off it last night. It's clearly a strike by the opposite foot and from the hair loss it caused some fairly deep bruising but without breaking the skin.
I am off to enjoy this weather some more, it's absolutely fabulous out there!

Good for RadaR....he has not completely disappeared. I was a bit worried about him. *G*
ReplyDeleteAce having fun on a hack? Who woulda thunk? He's not the horse he was a year ago, that's for sure.
Good for Woody too. At least the lameness has a source now, so that makes it easier to deal with. Glad his feet are sound.
Yes, all that good steady behaviour by Radar did have us worried, eh Jean - so out of character :-)
