Gimme a break!

I actually had to hide behind the house this morning coming in after digging the snowdrift away so that I could feed the boys, because the wind was so strong I couldn't walk against it!

The view from my window today, when I am meant to be working but just can't get there:

There isn't that much snow around but the wind is causing drift two feet deep, and  it's forecast to go on most of the day.  This is the worst day of the winter so far!

No riding of course, and precious little chance of me getting the lorry out to hunt tomorrow.

  1. They are predicting a big storm to hit us next week too. This winter is lasting far too long for my taste. It does look dreadful there. Do be careful and take care of yourself.

  2. Fires are on. Boys are in the barn. Apart from being blown over by the wind, which is a serious risk, the only danger I am in is being savaged by two kittens.

    1. Speaking of....is Smidjun in the house or still out on an "insult" mission?

I take it the kittens are rather playful? I have had lots of galloping about and hissing. The new little boy is a bit too rough for my little girl, but she, being a calico/tortoiseshell is very capable of expressing her opinion.

    2. We are being very careful with the kittens and Smidjun because he was so desperately upset last time we introduced a kitten. First of all we had them in a cage sized for a great Dane.

Now we have them in the lounge and dining room, which join. The dining room is hard floored and I feed them and have their litter in there so they aren't messing up the carpets.

When Smidjun accepted that and began to sniff at the door, then we put a grill across the lounge door into the hall, so now be can see them as well. He has all the rest of a very big house and he sleeps with us all night.

That's where we are one week in, and today he is sitting outside the grill, watching them for a while, then growling when he can cope no longer and going away.

He is so frightened by them the poor boy, but at least this time he is eating and washing himself and they are safe from him.

We are lucky that we have such a big and flexibly set out house manage him.

When he stops being frightened of them, then we will put him in the cage and let them spread their scent all over the house, then let him out, separated still, so that he gets used to the idea that their smell may be anywhere.

Only then will we let them loose together, carefully supervised. Smidjun is unfortunately just like Jazz when he feels threatened, viciously violent.

We've had a huge surprise!!! Scratch, the tabbie, is a boy!!!!! We were told that they were both girls, but he was on his back waving his legs in the air and he's clearly a boy! I don't mind at all,in fact he'll be cheaper to neuter.

  3. I think I will have a photo to match yours tomorrow. Snow started while I was riding with a fierce north wind so I had to had to get off. The indoor was being used for a jump clinic so I couldn't ride in there. The thing is you guys probably don't need the moisture so there is no upside to your snow.
