Ace is doing so, so well. His back muscles have now built up so far that he is almost ready to carry the saddle. Not me too, just the saddle. I also posted only recently about Radar's back being too soft to compare Ace with, but I'm beginning to think I'll need to withdraw that comment, because he's so soft now that they are almost the same.
This progress has to be largely due to walking around all day on a hillside. I am so lucky with the facilities that I have here. For every day that we have severe weather, and low temperatures, there are benefits that at least balance out. You can remind me I said that when I'm shovelling snow in January :-)
I may pop the saddle on his back tomorrow just to see how he reacts. The scars are certainly not causing any issues so we can find out how it goes with him being lightly girthed up. Exciting and nervous times!

I have a hill in m pasture too. Not as grand as yours, I'm sure, but it does provide a workout in turnout. All of it is so important to a horse's overall fitness and health.
ReplyDeleteI suspect Ace will be good for the saddling. By now the incisions should be well healed. If he's not showing any sensitivity when you massage them, all will be well.
Exciting times indeed.
I can massage over the scars now, Jean. He seems completely pain free everywhere.
