Literally, not by Ace's progress. Well, not only by Ace's progress anyway. It's really windy here on my hilltop today. We've had our longest hack yet, after again throwing on his tack without ceremony and leaping aboard. He doesn't care at all.
He was a spooky pony, but I am not sure if I have ever bothered to hack him out in wind like this before. I don't think so. And even so, 'spooky' now means a look or a pop up of the head. It used to mean a turn for home or an all-four-feet-off-the-floor jump. There's just nothing like that now.
I am getting so much more confident about telling him what to do, where to go and how fast, because I'm so certain from how he is walking, particularly downhill, that nothing is hurting him. It's also clear from girthing up and from how he is when I put my leg on, that his stomach is also settled. I was so afraid of ulcers still being an issue and confusing me with his rehab that it's a great relief to find that it's clearly not a problem any more.
We picked a good day not to hunt, it was pouring with rain for the whole time that we would have been out. Saturday's weather forecast is no more hopeful either. If anything it's worse!!!

This is lovely news. You're getting to the stage where you can "ride the horse you want him to be" rather than "ride the horse with limitations, that remain in your mind".
ReplyDeleteHe's learning to live in the moment, not the past. What a gift!
Unbelievable change in less than two months, isn't it ER?

Pretty incredible changes have taken place here. To think of your just hopping aboard and going out for a hack in the blowing wind does blow me away.
ReplyDeleteAce's progress is astounding. If he keeps up the same attitude with his schooling, he's going to be at Grand Prix for sure. I am smiling for you.
I have contacted the trainer I want to use Jean :-)
