Plan A succesfully executed!

We have lift-off!  He was very happy to hack back to home, and I also stopped and turned him so that SH could take some pictures. That was more than I expected to do. Apart from one foot-stamp, the right hind as usual, he showed no sign of any irritation at all today, not even when I did up the girth. His walk was beautiful, loose and swinging. It feels as if the operation has been a 100% success at this stage.

He is different in his walk action and in his overall demeanour, which is softer than ever before. You can see that he is still not quite straight in his right foreleg, but it's a lot straighter than it was and I hope it will improve more yet (though he is not straight through the fetlock so it will never go completely).

I am very happy that the rehab I have given him was the right one for him. I can't see how we could have got a better result than this by keeping him confined, but I can easily imagine that it might have been a lot worse.

Here's the proof:

Ignore the camping under, it's the camber on the road, just see my grin :-)

A longer hack tomorrow, and then a session on the arena, I think. No stopping us now, I  hope!

  1. He looks super relaxed in the video. I think you are more then successful at this point. It's really quite amazing. You must be looking forward to doing some trot work to see how that feels.

I can hardly believe 42 days have passed already since the surgery. Strange how time seemed so slow before the surgery as we all waited, and now it's flying by.

    You certainly deserve that smile!!

  2. The relaxation is very noticeable change Jean. I realised afterwards that it is the first time he has ever walked that stretch of road without spooking at patches in the road. That has to be a hopeful sign for dressage letters next spring, doesn't it?

  4. Is it just me seeing things, or is he very slightly stiff on the right fore?

Its very very faint, and I have never seen.him so fluid

  5. Just the pronounced road camber I think Styric, I can't feel anything when I ride him. That leg deviates at the fetlock too.
