I have just finished a meeting with the Senior Partner and the newly promoted partner heading up orthopedics to discuss all the issues around Ace and the service being experienced by me and my friends. It was an interesting meeting. One listened hard, the other didn't. It has confirmed to me that I need to be with another practice.
First of all we went out to see Ace, who I had penned into the barn with Radar. They felt his back, they watched him move. I asked them what they thought of his progress and they said he was doing very well. We talked about the rehab instructions and true to form, the one who didn't listen told me that she was prepared to 'negotiate' with me when it would be right to turn Ace out. Bearing in mind that at this stage I have already made it clear that they are no longer my vets, and we were in my own barn looking at my own horse, I felt it just crystalised things for me that she even felt it appropriate to use the word 'negotiate'.
I asked them again if they were happy with his progress and on being assured that they were, I told them that he has already been turned out for a week and a half. That rather put the mockers on the rest of that conversation!
But I am really pleased, because I have confirmation that I've done the right thing, without having to pay for a consultation either :-)
I haven't lunged him yet today, I'm going out later to do that while Radar eats. But his back is soft and squidgy and this morning I saw him canter up the field. He has always, even in the field, cantered like a wound up ball. Not today, he was strung out like a racehorse, and it was as easy for him as cutting butter with a hot knife, you could see it even from a distance.

"Negotiate?" Since when did they have control over you and your horse? If she'd said, "discuss," then maybe....but not '"negotiate."
ReplyDeleteRegardless, you had the ace in the hole when they deemed Ace's progress was good despite your not having followed their restricted care directions.
Glad to hear he really is doing well, confirmed by the experts. You must be beaming. That flowing canter/gallop must have been a sight to behold. Gotta love it!
Oh Jean I'm beaming even more now. He was so relaxed when I went out to lunge him that I didn't even put him under the lights. He walked off with a fifteen to eighteen inch overtrack. He trotted with an overtrack into and slightly over the front footprint. I sent him on and he went into medium trot for the sheer joy of being able to do it. He repeated it all on the other rein. I'll have to get another video tomorrow, because this was head and shoulders above what he did yesterday!

I love it, they've no idea what to do with you have they. So used to insurance customers just hanging on their every word.....good work C :)
ReplyDeleteFeeling rather smug, I admit. Gonna feel mighty stupid if he won't let me ride him!
DeleteThough that possibility is looking increasingly unlikely.
