Well that was the right decision, to give hunting a miss. I took Radar out for a hack and he was flat and tired. He has obviously worn himself out fretting this week as well as the rest of us. I was so grateful not to be getting ready to leave the yard by nine o'clock this morning, and poor SH just needs some down time from horses. Ace, of course, didn't want to be left alone today, and the cats are ecstatic about the lap availability, so it suits all seven of us :-)
Ace is doing brilliantly. He doesn't appear to be in pain at all and he is very felixible. Radar was in with him last night and they were so pleased to be back together. I had Ace on a lead when Radar came in, but I didn't even need it, they just settled and ate together. I'm sure it's the best thing for him and his recovery.
The wounds are looking fabulous. Aside from the staples, they look totally closed up and as if they were just scratches. In another week I will start taking out a few staples each day. I would show you the new xrays, but the disc they gave me 'with them on' was blank. I hope the surgeon had better attention to detail than those nurses!
We had a half hour walk including the big steep hill and he managed it with no problems or any apparent pain. He had a nice bit of grass from the verges too. Like the last time I brought home a horse to be box rested after being filled full of drugs - Jazz - he is seeking out dandelion and plantain. I know dandelion is a diuretic which will flush out his system but I don't know the therapeutic effect of plantain, which is something they would never usually eat. Anyone?
Today was the last antibiotic jab. Tomorrow we reduce the bute. By Monday we should have a really good idea just how comfortable he is. I am very hopeful that we have a resolution, it's looking good at this stage.

Researched plantain. It also serves as a diuretic. And, according to one website "The leaves can also be made into a tea or tincture, and this is said to help with indigestion, heartburn and ulcers when taking internally." Interesting and appropriate.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you made right decisions on all fronts. Radar certainly doesn't sound as if he wanted to go hunting today and Ace seems decidedly happy to have the company.
As for the cats? Laps are always a plus...although here, one rather rambunctious kitten seems to think a lap is a launch pad in between window sill and a reckless race down the hallway. *G*
Try being a man in our household when they play that trick Jean. :-))))

All sounding very good. Liking yr H&H thread too, entertaining!
ReplyDeleteIf you want a horsey fix, burghley Tv has all the XC rounds up to watch, brilliant service. xx
I loved Booboos telling me where I had my own horse operated on and not even being in the right country. I'll be smiling about that one all night :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad everything went well with the operation and Ace is back home and recovering well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Judith, it's a big relief that it's over.
