It's a muggy, damp day and as a consequence Radar was dripping wet after a standard hack. I gave him what should be one of his last showers of the year. That will also have cleaned his coat out nicely to clip tomorrow. He was full of himself today. I think the warmth and humidity has produced a grass flush.
I couldn't get video of Ace today, and can't now until Sunday. But Ace has gone up another massive step. He needed neither warming up under the lights, nor a massage to free his back today, it was already free. Straight away he was overtracking in walk with a good foot between the heel of his hind footprint and the toe of his forefoot. The trot was loose and free, tracking right into and over the front footprint and he would also give me medium trot with ease.
His front leg action is definitely a lot straighter. It now seems clear that the outward swing of the knee was to prevent the shoulder pulling on the back as it comes forward. I think there may even be a lot more movement to come as his shoulders unlock themselves. That would be really exciting.
I'm feeling a lot more confident about riding him again mid October :-)

I'm still nervous, but as he changes each day I get less and less concerned that he is going to have any trouble, Lynda.
DeleteHi L Williams :-)
ReplyDeleteThe news just keeps getting better and better. He's going to be fine under saddle. Just remember how hard he tried to be a good boy when his back hurt. Now...no pain. His naturally sweet disposition is going to shine!
ReplyDeleteHope Radar enjoys his clip job. He'll appreciate it when he goes hunting, I'm sure.
I always enjoy doing the first clip. He has plenty of coat for it now.
