How am I moving

Here we go, video of Ace on the lunge this morning. It was taken right from the start, so you can see that although he is lazy (which appears to be his new character!) he isn't stiff or lame. First of all you get some image of the back and the scars. I was very, very surprised how far forward the problem is. I misread the xrays before it was done and expected it to be much further back, but the further back ones are fine.

Then there is a shot of one of his front feet, which have both done exactly the same thing. First, there is an angle change which is only a week old so doesn't show yet, but can be felt. His new feet will be more upright.

But what is on the video is the bars, which have come up high and sharp right to the point of his frog, which is shedding at the toe. This is new in the last 48 hours. Bars grow like that in a foot which is being put to use in a way which it is not quite strong enough for. There are temporary bracing, and they will disappaer as his foot strengthens. So he is clearly, as far as his feet are concerned, moving completely differently than he was.  I don't know about you, but I find that utterly fascinating!

Here's the vid.  The bit right at the end was where I brought the circle in small and sent him on to check that he is really using his hocks properly. There is more hock bend than I recall seeing before, and the straighter front leg action is also very clear to me.

Radar got to do his least favourite activity, with the added insult of Ace already being out in the playground. Sorry mate :-)

  1. The film is not playing for me. Going off for my swim so will try later. All it does is show a black screen and then go to the pictures of all available videos. Is it my computer or your loading of it??? Or something about the international connection? Darn it!! Back later.

  2. Wow such neat little incisions. Amazing the changes going on the the feet.... interesting, presumably he's no longer compensating and therefore loading differently.
Ha at the new lazy Ace

  3. Now it worked!! He looks so much softer through his back and topline. His trot is decidedly looser as is the canter.

But better yet, overall, he just looks happier and more content. It's going to be exciting when you start to ride him again to really feel those changes.

    1. I'm pleased you can see some differences Jean. He is certainly very quiet, and the website of the Pioneer reports personality changes as being quite common.
