Excellent Progress

The bute was reduced to one sachet a day yesterday, which is a tiny amount for a horse of Ace's size. It stops altogether after today's tea. Far from being adversely affected by the withdrawal of pain medication, he was even more flexible today than yesterday. He can now turn the tiniest circle without any noticeable difficulty. He is also much more settled on our walk than he was the last few days. He's gone very quiet and gentle and relaxed.

Radar appears to me to be behaving very quietly with Ace. There is no play behaviour going on. I would almost say that he is aware that Ace is not as strong as he could be and is giving him an easy time. He's not chasing him away from shared food, and if he makes Ace move at all it is only very gently.

They are often to be found in the daytime like they are right now. Radar technically in the field, close to one side of the gate, and Ace technically on barn rest, close to the other side in a small pen that lets him get the sun on his back. It's very sweet to see it, and it rewards SH for all the work he put into raising the height of the gate and filling in the space between the bars with a wire grid to make it safe.

It will be a whole week tomorrow. Where does the time go?

  1. Good heavens, a week already! Time does fly. The whole rehab period will be over before you know it.

Excellent report both on Ace's condition and the status of the two of them together. I think too, Ace is telling you a lot by both his behavior and his new flexibility. He is probably in a new world with his back freed up like that.

Continuing to look forward to more great news about the situation.

And again hoping you find more information about the rehab procedure just to satisfy your own mind at the very least.
