Spinnng top games

Bland was almost around today but Dull and Boring were absent. Ace was rather brittle today. He flashed his tail just a tiny bit when I did up the girth and I made a note to be careful and not push too hard today. When I got on he kicked at his belly twice and he was wriggling until he had done a poo. He was so funny, for some reason he insisted on doing it on the track near the invisible barrels. I turned him away each time and he held most of it in until we came around again. Eventually he caught me out by sneaking one in quickly before I could turn him _ why did he HAVE to go there, where it was going to get trodden in.

His work was not bad. Not elevated or very forward, but acceptable. He ended on some very nice trot serpentines where after a little repetition he agree to do the loops without changing his outline. I felt he learned quite a bit from that about obedience and submission.

RadaR has done at least ten miles today. I haven't!

I got on him and after a couple of circuits in walk it was clear that we were in for an extended argument about how fast we were going to go. I couldn't be bothered with the argument, so I got off, put some side reins on him and put him on the lunge, and stood back and waited to see how long it was before he stopped cantering and galloping around the circle with me turning on the spot in the middle admiring the scenery.

Six minutes. That's a LONG time if you measure it, and at the pace he was going it was at least two mi les.  I tried to turn him around but he was having none of it and off he went again in canter and trot, and this time it was FIFTEEN minutes before he came back to walk. All t his time, I am simply standing in the middle doing nothing at all.

I did then manage to turn him around and off he went again, but he was obviously tired by now and only did another five minutes.

I reckon he has covered at least ten miles, and is tired out, while I am still as fresh as a daisy. Good choice Trayes!

  1. Lunging can certainly be the answer sometimes...especially to a radaR race. What a silly boy. Wish I had that kind of energy.

As for Ace, I would suspect that once in a while his tummy does bother him. And he's gotten to be oversensitive to it. A little discomfort probably reminds him of a lot of pain, so he overreacts. Still, not so bad and you've learned well to read the signs and ride accordingly.

  2. I think the same Jean, it's an overreaction because of remembered pain.

  3. Does Radar run around a lot in the field?

  4. He rarely stands still, he's always on the move. And he frequently has mad half hours where he starts a race and he and Ace gallop up and down the field until they are in a lather. He just lives for activity.
