I have found enough energy to ride one, and it had to be Woody because I don't want him to have more than one day in a row without work.
He is improving enormously each time he is schooled. Today he took much less time to stop the "get your hands off my mouth" head-in-the-air protests and give me a nice walk. And I got a much slower and more rythmic trot immediately instead of having to send him on faster to free his shoulders. His canter left was lovely, if still a bit short. His canter right is not as good and he struggles to strike off on the correct leg, but we get there in the end by focussing on not allowing the left shoulder to pop out sideways.
As he frees up his body, he feels more and more like the 16.3 horse that he is, and less like a pony. There is a lot of promise that he is going to be extremely comfortable and flexible to ride. And of course we are right on track to make it to the farm ride a week today, since he is consistently sound day after day.
In theory, there is a hunt tomorrow but the weather forecast is not very good, the ground is terribly wet underfoot, it's a "normal" category hunt which means there may not be any hedges, and I feel like a wet dishcloth. I may go, I may not, I'll tell you tomorrow.

Once again, good progress on the Woody front. It's really remarkable how quickly he is coming along.
ReplyDeleteSorry you aren't feeling well, but maybe taking some time off to rest a bit will be a good thing. So, if the ground is too wet to have fun on the hunt, you won't really be missing anything. *G*
