Well after the stress test of Monday on the Farm Ride, and two days off to allow anything that was going to stiffen up to do it, Woody is now moving better than ever. He probably has the best walk of any horse I have ever ridden. He is quite wide behind (in a good way, not excessive) and his bottom-swing is enormous. He was unimpressed by the discipline of walk/halt/walk exercises, with a contact, but the roads are all icy and he is too much of a panicker to take him out on ice so we were in the barn. He did eventually do some really beautiful walk and some very decent halts.
I notice that we have a few new readers lately, so you need to know that this barn is only 27m long and 10m wide, so we are very limited for what we can do in there and I tend to stick to walk.
Radar was even less impressed by being in such a small space. He almost spat out his dummy! But although he is sensible enough to go out on the roads, I am afraid that I was defeated by a temperature of minus 5 with a windchill down to minus 10. I can't say he got much work, but at least he got ridden, and his shoulder in was very nice.
I hope to ride Ace tomorrow, I am feeling a lot better for the antibiotics.#

Good for Woody!! A triumph for you, but an even more important triumph for him. He must be really happy.
ReplyDeleteI admire your determination, riding in that weather, even if you are indoors. No reason to take a chance out on the ice, nor in the icy air with your cough. Just don't overdo. You're responsibilities to your Boys needs some limits as, if you totally crash your health, you won't be able to do anything at all with them.
Glad the meds are helping though. Do take care.
Thanks Jean, I'm getting better bit by bit. Evening stables are dreadful, going out into the icy wind sets the cough off big time!

ReplyDeleteOh yes, nothing like really cold weather to make you cough, even if you are not sick. I did look it up and it is bacterial, bordetella something or other. Must be related to "kennel cough" in dogs.
ReplyDeleteHa, I know what "spat out his dummy" means :-), thanks to my five years in England.
Kennel cough? Thanks, I feel so much better for knowing why I feel like a dog :-) !
