Already obvious

It is already obvious how much more Ace is swinging his bottom this morning.  I am looking forward to seeing what he is like ridden.

I have sent the vet an email telling her that I want to go ahead with an interspinous ligament desmotomy as soon as it makes sense.  It's a relatively new operation, much less invasive than sawing off the spinal processes, and it is getting just as good results, if not better.

She says he is a candidate for it, and that doing it early will prevent damage to the actual vertebrae.

It's probably just a question of choosing the right moment from here on.

It has cooled down nicely outside now and it's going to be a close run thing between a snooze and riding Radar.

  1. Read a bit about that surgery earlier when you first posted about the x-rays. It certainly does sound like a promising treatment. They didn't say too much about the recovery time in the article I read, but the incision is so small, I'd imagine it would be a short time.

Glad to hear he seems already to be moving morel loosely. I'm looking forward to better and better reports.

    1. 2 weeks box rest with walk in hand, 2 weeks restricted turnout with lunging long and low, 2 weeks full turnout with lunging and then ride at 6 weeks.

      Sounds good to me.

  2. I lunged him this evening and saw muscles rippling down his back that were completely new. And his walk overtrack has increased by six inches or more.

  3. I'm so glad he feels better. I wish I could get steroid injections in my own back, but I'm saving that for when I really need it as steroid damages the bone and the damage builds up as you do it. I'm seriously considering one in my hip later though.

I had some done in Chevy's stifle for stifle problems and it made a huge difference though it affected his hooves.

Keep an eye on Ace's feet, you'll probably notice an event line. However steroid injections are known for causing laminitis, and I know he's prone to it.

  4. I'm watching like a hawk for laminitis, she did warn me. The steroid is synthetic, which I hope makes it less risky.

What's your disease called? My friends sister has Marfens which affects all her connective tissue poor woman.

  8. What I have is called Ehler Danlos Syndrome type 3, which is closely related to Marfan's. Most of my small joints are affected but the worst is I have cranial instability. Human wobblers. My skull and upper vertebra are unstable and spinal cord pinched.

I've also got a few other syndromes that EDS is known for causing, and so many muscular issues it's actually kind of funny.

    doctors are afraid of me.
