I defy any horse to have more obvious fun on a farm ride than Radar did this morning. He hasn't jumped since mid March and it took him, oooooooh, no fences at all to get his eye right back in and attack them with enthusiasm. We were both thrilled when we realised that the really big steeplechase fence at the end was not roped off as it was all winter. It's about four foot and slopes so it jumps really well. He wanted to take it at a gallop and I couldn't think of a good reason why not :-)
He was surprisingly fit and we didn't hang about, though that might partly have been him trying to impress the pretty redhead my friend was riding :-)
I did want to ride Ace, but Radar has bitten him where the saddle would sit, so I think it would be unwise, given how recently we managed to get him happy again. It should be fine tomorrow, I hope.
Radar's enthusiasm reminds me so of my old Russell R. Put a fence in front of him and his ears would go up, you could feel him smiling. He made me so courageous. I can tell Radar instills that same kind of courage in you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand horse to have and ride to those fences!!
Yes, it's so easy to jump a horse who says 'I'm going, are you coming with me?' He's a grand horse. My friend says he should be jousting!
