The coffee was good.

And it's just as well , cos Ace wasn't.

He spun bucked and reared in  the warmup. Then he did some decent-ish work.  Then  he started bucking and rearing again in the canter. I got him through that and went up to the arena but decided to keep my air jacket on. It's a good job that I did because in the first canter he lost it completely,  bolted, bucked, spun, reared, the lot.

I now have him on a full treatment dose of omeprazole and if that does not cure him I will take him completely off the grass.  But I have warned him that if he has to be kept in full time to make him rideable then I will sell him to a professional yard where all the horses are kept like that.

I am too old now for this neck risking stuff, and a horse in full time all year round is too much of a tie.

But the coffee was nice :-)

  1. Well, glad you are OK. Keeping him in would be really hard, considering your set up and, of course, Radar. Wish it had gone better, but at least you tested the theory.

Don't blame you for not wanting to deal with the nonsense. I totally understand...been there..done that.

Perhaps he will take the threat to heart and straighten up...the omeprazole should help.

    1. looking at the video, Clair, I cannot see how I stayed on. He was like greased lightening as he shot away from the side of the arena in lengthened canter.

  3. Fingers xed the meds will work. Quite agree that life is too short for dealing with that day in and out. We do this for fun!

  4. So sorry to hear this, I thought the heat pads had really given you the breakthrough you needed with him. He's such a stunning mover when he's behaving himself too. Stay safe and I hope the meds work wonders for him too.

    1. He definitely has two different problems Tracey. The back is one, which we hve completely resolved, my bottom tells me so :-)

The other is an acid stomach with summer grass. Whether he has ulcers is a question. And even if he doesn't, whether ulcer meds resolve it is another.

We should know in a week or less.

  5. Can't you get him scoped and started on Gastroguard? Sounds like he may have some serious ulcers going on there.
