Back in Tesco Costa

We are back in Tesco Costa a-gain, as another eight vans and crews attempt to resolve our broadband issues. Now SH knows an awful lot about telecoms and the only reason this can possibly be taking so long is that they are avoiding re-cabling and are dax-ing - doubling up the use of each wire that is still working for more than one phone .

We know from experience that if they dax our line we will lose our broadband intermittently. Our neighbours who have been reconnected  are experiencing just this already. In addition, it means that the next time there is  a lightening strike (and being on a hilltop this is a regular event for us and we have full surge-protection on all our electrical equipment because of it) it will take even long for them to fix it.

Twice in three years we have lost broadband/phone for two weeks or more. So we now feel forced to go for satellite and pay an additional several hundred pounds a year, so as to ensure continuity of our broadband, which is now fundamental to the way we live. What a pain!

On the plus side, it is a gorgeous day today and I rode Radar up to a friend's house where breakfast porridge and an automatically refilling mug of coffee were on offer. He had a great time rolling in her sand arena while we were otherwise engaged, and he was well relaxed on the way back home. I intend to hack Ace a shorter distance later this afternoon. It will be interesting to see how his behaviour out on a hack has changed with his unsettled stomach.

  1. I hate having to depend on the so called "repairs" of some of the service providers we have around here. After Hurricane Sandy, a power company from Missouri was here on my road to fix things. They said, "We're going to take a while because this time we're going to fix it right." I guess my power company has been taking shortcuts too.

It's a amazing how the Internet has woven itself so powerfully into our lives. Hope you get your issues sorted out so you too can get back to the new "normal."

Hope the hack on Ace was OK. The one on Radar sounds great!

  4. Having tried BT when we first moved here and having had problems on a monthly basis with each fix taking weeks I can only say satellite is WELL worth it - much more reliable, faster and infinitely less hassle!
