I think Ace must just be a big old wuss. He doesn't look unsound this morning and there is absolutely no sign at all of a knock. All I can say is that if it was a muscle pull causing 3 legged lameness then he must be a huge wuss to have made such a fuss over an injury that has got better so quickly. He still has heat in it, but apart from that and a bit of filling because he isn't out walking around on it, he's fine.
The weather is atrocious, heavy rain and strong wind, so they are all in the barn today. I wanted them all together to keep Ace moving a bit, so it's better that the weather is so bad that they didn't want to be outside anyway. They ate their breakfasts and then made a beeline straight back into the barn. Even Radar didn't want to go and check his property, he just turned his back on the field gate and marched across the yard into the barn :-)
There is no point clearing the barn of horses and hayracks to ride Jazz indoors, so no-one is going to get ridden today. I am extremely pleased with Buttie's waistline and I am beginning to be able to feel his main ribs through a thin layer of fat, so I may not bother to do pony-spinning tonight either. He was a delight last night :-) I put him on the lunge on a headcollar and he just gaily trots around me, takes canter on command, walks, stops and everything, all without ever pulling at the end of the lunge rope even though he is trotting past the open door of the barn. His trot stride is getting longer and longer too, as he learns to use himself, and he can now canter a whole circle where he could only do a maximum of a half. He's a sweet little pudding!

Too funny - a sweet little pudding. Now I know that pudding, in general, in England means dessert. So now I can translate that Buttie is a sweet little dessert. It is very cute - to imagine this little guy happily trotting around you. I guess all equines love to move - it's hard wired I am sure.
ReplyDeleteTo be generous to Ace, if there was any swelling at all in his hock, I can attest that is would have been sore and uncomfortable to bend. So perhaps he was not a wuss at all. (I have a new perspective on joint swelling since my surgery...)
ReplyDeleteLove the Buttie progress and your adoration of him. I have a feeling he is delighted to be working like the big fellows and really feels "empowered" to be so important. *G*
Puddings are also usually desserts that are soft and squidgy (and very fattening!) ML, which suits him too.
ReplyDeleteAce's hock is fine Jean, it's above it, thankfully.

Even the filling above can hurt. When you walk, the swelling puts pressure on the muscle and it can be very uncomfortable.
