Was it really Thrusday?

How have I missed so many days? I can't even remember now what I was doing!  SH has just reminded me that the weather was so foul on Friday that the boys stayed in all day and so did I. Snow, sleet, wind, yuk.

I rode Jazz and Ace yesterday is about as far back as my mind will go without more prompting. Ace was sweet outdoors and Jazz was a monster indoors and chucked his head in my face and has given me a big nose and two slightly black eyes! Today, though, he was wonderful and his canter to walk in the barn was sublime, both transitions up and down from the merest seat aid. I have no idea why he was so pig-headed yesterday, he simply would not bend in any direction.

I schooled Radar outdoors today and he is certainly improving all the time. That guy who wanted to come and see him has emailed me again to see if I still have him.  I said that I have but I am not anxious to sell. If he thinks I'll come down in price because he has not sold, he doesn't understand how much Radar is worth to me :-)

I have been pony-spinning every day while the others eat their tea, and Buttie is behaving very well and looking nicely trim.

The forecast for tomorrow is appalling - high winds and heavy rain. So don't expect anything exciting in the way of reports!

  1. Hiya, I hope you haven't been blown away. Its horrid down here tonight :(

I am very envious of your riding surfaces these days, I'm confined to the odd riding lesson and hacking which really isn't inspiring me right now - grrrrr, especially as I've just bought a dressage saddle....finally!!

  2. I'm really surprised about how enjoyable riding outside is even in quite poor weather. The arena is just so fantastic that once I'm out there I'm engrossed and don't notice the wind, cold or a bit of drizzle. I still feel like the luckiest person in the world.

I share your lack of enthusiasm for midwinter hacking!

    What saddle did you get?

  3. I've found my shetland loves it when i put out trotting poles and lunge him over them, he bounces over them looking very pleased with himself :-)

Hope the nose & eyes are back to normal soon, silly Jazz!

  4. What an idea, Sarah :-)

How far apart do I put them for a Shetland????

  5. Depends on the Shetland's size and stride, I'd imagine...just adding my two sense.

So sorry about your nose. Ouchers. Never can quite figure out why horses behave they way they do sometimes.

I've heard about your dreadful winds. Sounds like some of the weather we had this year. Trees down all over and with them, no power. Speaks well for underground power lines. Hope all is well there with you all.

  6. Nose is better today thanks Jean!

It was an incredible night, but all roofs still present this morning, which is not always the case!!

  7. I had them set at 4'3 spacing (were set out for my Haffie) and he could comfortably trot and canter over them... the cantering was his idea :-D

  8. Heather Moffett Vogue Dressage, my horse firmly chose it - nothing else would do! I loved the Albion K2 Ultima which was more expensive, but she didn't like it at all. Honestly she's completely different in the Vogue and I can use it on all of them, and start the baby in it.

I don't much like looking at it, but I had no choice when she just lifted her back and collected at the softest touch, when normally she whinges and moans for 1/2 an hour first!!

Its rediculously soft to ride in and completely moulds to whatever horse its put on, very clever piece of kit and the leather is the softest I've ever known on a saddle.

  9. I did like my HM treelesses but they didn't cope with my hilly terrain and really hard work standing in the stirrups :-(

  10. I'll try some when I'm bored with circles Sarah!

  11. I concur Caroline, its ONLY for flatwork, my first outing in it was a hack and downhill I felt distinctly unsafe!!!! They all have GP/event saddles which I'm keeping, so I can relax on that front!
