Pony-spinning

I have done the pony-spinning game what, three times so far? He now walks, trots and halts on command and stays out on the end of the lunge line. He will also take canter but he won't keep it up like he does the trot. And I have had to train him all by myself with voice and lunge whip. Sharp litle beggar, ain't he?

Radar got another go on the arena today. It is wearing in beautifully. I last graded it over a week ago, and I noticed today that the outside track has not changed at all. The strip where the stain I put on it ends, from where the surface has compacted, is still visible. Nothing is kicking up against the kicking boards. It is better than I had expected, by a long way! Once the middle is "cooked" with a bit more use, it will hardly ever need grading and work as well as a waxed one twice the price.

Radar wasn't impressed and was his normal self, though everything takes less time to get right each time we go out there. He really does have a beautiful canter and I am planning to try him in a snaffle soon, to see if I can encourage him to take hold of the bit more steadily than he is at the  moment.

  1. I somehow suspect Buttie has just been watching the big boys go and waiting to show you all he's learned by observation. Too bad he's a little short for you to ride. I suspect if you fit him he'd be doing half passes and flying changes just to prove all he knows.

And who knows what that herd of yours discusses when they are in the barn at night? Buttie's just been taking it all in and waiting.....*G*

That arena sounds heavenly. Perhaps it will motivate Radar to actually allow you to control him. *S*

  2. So interesting about Buttie & lunging as I have lunged Leo, my mini, twice and he got it straight away too! These little chaps are so smart.

  3. Jean - Control. Radar. Mmmmmm. :-)

I think he is definitely more intelligent than any other horse I have owned Sarah. I wonder why the tinys are so sharp mentally?
