Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesult!

The fixed sided liverpool cherry roller worked! He was completely unable to set on it, I could feel the rollers rolling away from him. For some reason it also stopped him violently shaking his head from side to side as well. He did try, but it was not nearly as unseating as he has been in the past, nor did he keep it up for any length of time, as if he knew it was pointless. I could also release him when we had space and let him go, knowing that I could stop again.  It was fantastic!

We had a great day as a result. Loooooads of hedges, one of the biggest of them with the most GINORMOUS drop, and Radar also flew it and landed a good ten feet out the far side :-0   He got quite a few comments from people who saw it!

I've had a whale of a time. I've really got my eye back in and Radar is fit, physically more mature, jumping timber much better than he used to and hedges better than ever.

I'm sitting here with a very silly grin on my face :-)

  1. Fabulous news, I'm so pleased for you both, I hope the silly old duffer who's comments were so unwelcome last outing was there to see the great show you put up. :-)

    Well done.

  2. BB Tracey, it was great, too right :-)

He was behind me all day Tracey - all he saw of Radar and I was our backsides :-)))

  3. That's five words to describe a bit - no wonder it works! But, seriously, how lucky to find one that really makes a difference and then to go out and have such fun on a horse that is so brave!

  4. I could have made it more :-) In full, it's a Liverpool Soft Port Three Slot Carriage Driving Bit Fixed Cheek With Copper Rollers.

Perhaps a picture says it better:

If Tetley was still jumping he would have made the most terrific, and probably snaffle mouthed, hunter! I often wish he could be out there with me. Sorry Radar!

  6. ps: just looked at pic & can see how the bit is perfect for your requirements. I think it would have been perfect for my horse who behaved in a similar way to Radar out hunting...if I still had him would definitely try it!

  7. Three cheers! At last the right bit. Wonderful news.

And Jazz does look great. Some judges just don't give an inch, I fear. Keep your perspective. You know how well you are going and how far he has improved. That's what really matters.

  8. I've checked his mouth this morning and it is less inflamed than it was before we set out yesterday, so it's been a total, total success Sarah. I'm so pleased!

  9. It's only the one judge Jean, and you can see what a sad muppet she is when she comes into the cafe. One of what we call "Cheshire County" set - old money, think they are a cut above the rest of us. I mean, WHO wears a fuscia pink several hundred pound (£)fashion brand wool blazer to sit in a wooden cabin on a bleak moorland judging horses :-)
