OK OK I heard you

Ace had made it perfectly clear that he is far from happy with a wider gullet plate in his saddle.  Interestingly, he chose to complain at the blue barrels, when I put a shoulder fore aid on to ask him not to move to the right away from them. I thought it was just spring fever that he bucked, quite, badly, but he did it three times in total in three different places.

When I got off I realised that the saddle had slipped backwards and it was obviously too far back on his loins. I once again thank goodness that I found WOW saddles, because they have saved me a fortune over the years on young and changing horses. I am glad that I gave him the benefit of the doubt and didn't get cross with him, because he was obviously a bit uncomfortable.

What I need to do now is replace the correct sized gullet plate and change the panels for another set I have which have deeper airbags in them. That will allow me to raise the height of the back to match the front without making the airbags too hard.  In addition, they are differently shaped at the front, and will allow me to sit the front lower without anything hard pressing into  his withers. That should solve things, I just have a lot of screwing to do later :-) !!

He will also be having his food cut down, because spring has arrived, the sunshine is beautiful, the temperature has risen and the wind has gone. The grass will be growing like topsy even if it doesn't look like it yet, and heaven help us when we get a bit of rain, it will go mad.

  1. Ace has really taught you to listen. He is, in his way, a wise young fellow. Glad the saddle will be relatively easy to fix so it suits. Good investment indeed.

As for the weather, the same thing has happened here. Spring suddenly arrived with sunshine and warm weather. It's going to be delightful!

  2. I have RSI now :-) - 9 screws and a lot of fiddling about, but it's ready for some air and a test ride tomorrow.
