More spooks than a ghost train.

OK there is a very high wind out there. OK it's spring, but Ace was dreadful today. More spooky than the ghost train at Alton Towers.  I even hit him a couple of times because he was just being silly.  He wouldn't even come home from my coffee at my friend's house because of tree shadows waving on the road. I lost count of how many times he spun away before he realised that we were going to dance in the road until he walked over them. He did it in the end, of his own choice, and was a fair bit better from then on.

The good bit is that he no longer rears when he spooks, and he does not buck on the road.

The wind was too strong to ride at all yesterday and the forecast for this week is increasing wind strength, so I may not get to ride much. What a shame - the sun is out, the temperature is into the teens and other than the wind the weather is perfect

I  was planning on a dressage competition on Wednesday, but it will be pointless in these winds so don't hold your breath.

  1. I feel your pain, we abandoned riding yesterday its just too dangerous in this wind. Good news that his objections are the rearing and bucking kind!

  2. Glad he's not bucking on the road. That would really be scary.

He almost sounds a bit "thoroughbred" in the brain where the spooks just escalate instead of settling down once they start. Hope here, though, as Tucker has gotten a little less like that as he's aged. *sigh* Maybe some years under his girth will help Ace too.

I can still remember my friend's horse performing a perfect capriole in front of me on the road when he encountered a dreadful white line on the pavement. Shadows are much scarier.

    1. He is very thoroughbred in his looks, too Jean. I suspect that if I was to check I would find a lot of TB blood in his ancestors.

  3. We have wicked winds here too, though not today. Instead, for variety, we are getting at least a foot, maybe more, of very wet snow. I do hate high winds and it's no surprise that horses do too. But, I think it's huge progress that Ace did not rear or buck! Stay safe!!!
