We knew he could do it, didn't we?

Well, we knew it was only a matter of time before Ace relaxed enough to show what he can do in an arena. He was very different today. He was alert and looking around as he got out of the lorry. That doesn't sound good, but last time he was so overwhelmed that he was mentally completely shut down. Today he was bright, unconcerned, but interested. We knew immediately that he would be different.

The result was that he has scored 70.45, with an error that would have made it over  71% and 71.25 with an error that would have made it 72%    How fab is that?

The second error-of-course was a circle at the wrong end. Stoooopid jockey!!!

The first one was that I was sitting there, so absolutely happy about the sheer quality of the canter under me that I forgot to tell him that we were going to canter right round and down the far side, and he broke at the quarter marker. Stoooooooopid jockey!!!!!

The really good news is that he didn't get upset, didn't panic, he just retook canter and finished the test nicely, but dropped two points for the break of stride.

He was a joy to ride. So responsive, listening, balanced, confident. Everything we ever hoped he would be. All he needs now is more experience. I wonder what next week's tests are?

Medium walk.

Free walk long rein, as if you hadn't guessed!

Trot and canter, taken just to show how much he kicks up off the floor and how uphill he is. These are not transitions, they are mid-movement.

  1. Have to say it....my favorite comment from a dressage judge on a horse I had trained "from scratch." : "Will make good pair when rider catches up to horse." *G* I bet if you'd let Ace pilot the test, it would have been on course. *LOL*

Congratulations! Those are fantastic scores and well deserved, I'm sure. All your dedication is paying off big time! Wonderful. He does look great.

  2. Wow, are you sure he is the same horse? What an improvement and what good scores you got. Finally you are on your way with him.

  3. It's just his brain ML. In his work he hasn't really changed much at all (I thought he would come out at elementary this spring but he's way off that yet). But as soon as he kept his brain in his head, these scores were always an inevitability just because of how he moves. It's what we bought him for, it's just taken a little longer to arrive than we thought it might!

  5. He was obviously just going so well that you were enjoying the ride and forgot the test. Maybe they should just make them all freestyle anyway then you could really show your stuff :-)
