News from the hospital this morning is that they are very happy with how well he Ace is walking. They intend to repeat the tourniquet trick tomorrow and then we will review on Monday where we are. It seems like everything is headed in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Radar does not seem too upset to be on his own, though he is more friendly than normal. He isn't usually a horse for hugs and kisses but he was happy to be with me just now. When it cools off a bit later I will school him gently today. We had a little hack two days ago, his first work for 6 weeks. I don't think he will mind coming back to work early at all, you know how he always loves to be out and about. It will do me a lot of good, which I'm sure will put a smile on his face too. I plan to school in - shock horror - a snaffle! At this rate we may be trying to do a couple of unaffiliated prelims on him this summer, so I want to see what happens. It may be quite a laugh, we'll see.
Jazz's personality is still everywhere. His body may be gone but his spirit certainly hasn't. I'm not a believer in ghosts, and I know that this is coming from inside me and not from out there, but both SH and I are feeling his presence here all the time. We are less sad than we were though, time helps.

ah, your saddle story of yesterday was very touching. Hugs. Great that Ace is on the mend and that the vets are cutting you some slack on the cost front! Its good to hear that its not all about the revenue with them.
ReplyDeleteRadar doing dressage......I am looking forward to that, have a nice sunny ride with him today, every little positive helps at times like this.

Have been thinking of you over these last few days. So glad to hear that Ace seems to be getting better. I am sure that Radar will enjoy whatever you have planned for him.
ReplyDeleteMy sister lost her first horse in Autumn and she also felt his presence for a while after.. seems to have been a really rubbish year.. lots of great horses seem to have leapt over into kingdom come..
ReplyDeleteVery pleased that Ace is making good progress / treatment is doing the job.
Good on Radar for getting you out and about.
Great news about Ace.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I am sure Radar likes the attention. It will be interesting to see how the schooling goes.
Jazz will be there until you don't need him to be anymore. When you tell him it's OK, he will go on his way. He will always be close to your heart and ready to be there at your side if you want him.
I am happy to read this post. The start of healing is evident in your writing and perhaps your riding Radar too. I was wondering how Radar was feeling, on his own. Don't forget to take care of yourself in a big way. Stress takes a very real physical toll on your body and mind.
ReplyDeleteLife is improving, thanks everyone. Radar is never in a month of Sundays gogn to make a dressage horse in competitions that need a snaffle :-) !!! I'll update tomorrow, but I enjoyed my ride more than he did!
