In many ways I am incredibly lucky. Other people with horses in this situation cannot get a definitive answer and they drag on for months or years.
Jazz is a classic late onset wobbler. He has a step narrowing of the spinal cord channel between neck vertebrae C3 and C4. In addition, he appears to have some fairly serious fragmentation of C4, with 3 or 4 separate pieces clearly visible on the xray.
We will try and get him safe to ride, but if he does not come right in a few months then I will have him put down before next winter.
Life is not fair, but other people have it worse than me. I still have Radar and Ace, two of the best horses of their kind in the country, possibly even in the world.

Oh B****cks I'm sorry mate. You're being characteristically brave but you don't fool me.
ReplyDeleteSending you big hugs and lots for Jazz too. Take your time with him and enjoy the other two brill fellas whilst he's resting.

Am so sorry.. Can't imagine how gutted you must feel. I in awe of your stoicism / bravery about this. All the very best to you and the 3 boys.. Carrots to the boys too..

Oh, I am so sorry, C. I've been reading (rarely comment) since Smartie, and when I saw your first post about this I fervently hoped this would not prove to be the case. You have worked so hard with him and accomplished so much. It isn't fair.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and your herd.

It sucks :-( Lucky Jazz to have an owner like you, though who will never let him suffer or fret...
ReplyDeleteWhat a blow! I'm really sorry to hear that your diagnostic instincts were right. Poor Jazz, Poor you. I wish I had something better to offer.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry C.
ReplyDeleteIt does make sense of all the little issues you have had with Jazz in the past.
Thinking of you. X
Life is not fair, as we all know by early adulthood. However knowing that does not make the unfairness easier to bear. Knowing that you are taking full responsibility for diagnosing and treating this, even if it results in euthanasia as the best option, will ease the pain in the long run. You are fortunate to have Radar and Ace. Hugs to you and Jazz.
ReplyDeleteHe has come so very far with you, farther than I have ever heard a wobbler go. He introduced you to the joys of dressage and made you laugh and cry.
ReplyDeleteI think all of us will never forget him. I wont, and I only met him in my dreams.
You are in my thoughts tonight
Thankyou everyone.

I'm so sorry, what devastating news.
ReplyDeleteI do hope he can continue to have a useful life with you, but if not he's a lucky lad that you're prepared to say your goodbyes.
Cassie.
Just catching up with the world and blogs, really sorry to hear this C and I'll be thinking of you and sending positive vibes to Jazz. Tracey S
ReplyDeleteThanks Cassie, Tracey. He's happy at the physio and now I'm away on my holiday and we'll see what happens when we get home.
