I am going to scream if this damned wind does not stop. Days and days now, and stronger today than ever. So much so that I won't ride Ace, it would be stupid to tempt fate like that. It is gusting so hard anything could be picked up in it and flung around. Well. perhaps not Ace, but you know what I mean :-)
I have ridden Jazz, but he was worrying about which bit of waving grass was goign to eat him, and not about what I wanted, so it wasn't the best session ever. But he did do a spectacular bit of medium trot on the right rein. Puzzlingly, he could not get it on the left, I wonder why that would be?
Yesterday and today he has been very unsteady in his mouth, going round with it open most of the time (I can see the shadow!). Today I tried him in the KK warmblood bits that I have, where both the snaffle and the weymouth have a huge forward sloping port to give room for the tongue. He is much less respectful of these bits, which is why I stopped using them six months ago when we were struggling, behaviour wise. I hoped that they would help to settle his mouth today but I can't say they made the slightest difference. Except that he was less respectful and pulled at them, so I may just swap back to the straight weymouth again.
I am also seeing a very slight increase in him weaving again, and I suspect he needs to go back onto omeprazole to stop the acid build-up in his stomach. Settelex just isn't enough. For the moment I am supplementing Settelex with ranitidine until my new supplies of omeprazole arrive.
Tomorrow I'm taking Jazz to the farm ride with a friend. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he makes of it. We may even jump a few small things if he suggests that would be a good idea.

I guess the winds from over here have made it over there. At least you don't have the tornados...I hope.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest the omeprazole for Jazz, but you beat me to it. Fussing with the bit was something Tucker did as well, so there could be a connection.
The weather has calmed down here windwise at least, although I think there are several rain storms on the way. Maybe you will get the rain after we do. I will try to send it your way.
I sympathize with you about the wind. We have weeks where it just won't quit and you can't do anything outside. Tetley is pretty good about it but there is a point where it becomes dangerous of course.
ReplyDeleteYou could always iron Allan's shirts on these windy days or take up knitting :-)
Great suggestions for alternative activities ML :-) Maybe I could try cooking too??
ReplyDeleteNo tornados yet Jean !
MORE wind today, but we has a lovely time on the farm ride. I'm of out but I'll post later.

has?? haD of course!
ReplyDeletei hate that sort of wind... and it's got a nasty nip in it at the moment...
ReplyDeleteVery wind down here too, and it did upset a few horses at the competition. Dressage in particular was rather difficult as each time you had to canter the wind was right behind you and a few had gallop instead!! We did well, double clear and 37 dressage (not up to standard) but we came 7th out of 40 which I was chuffed with. My horse was so up for the jumping today, it was fab.

p.s. I used to use draw reins on my horse when she was young and spooky in the wind, as a matter of self preservation!!
Really windy here as well which was a pain as I was trying to clean tack outdoors and kept getting arena sand, leaves and bits of twig stuck to it.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the ride tomorrow.
Tracey x2 well at least I'm not the only one, though it was even WORSE today. Gonna scream and scream until I'm thick :-)
ReplyDeleteTraceyB well done you! I'm glad you had so much fun, I'm guessing you were on a double clear?
