His first words when he finally came round.
What a day. I've been there twelve hours making a nuisance of myself. I was not going to leave until I was sure that he did not need me. But he is such a fighter that he was coming out of the anaesthetic too quickly so they had to put him back under. TWICE! He should have been conscious by about 2 o'clock, but it was 6pm before they managed to get him safely awake and breathing on his own. He has a very sore throat, of course, and more tubes than the London Underground, but he is pinker than I have seen him in two or three years.
He really shouldn't have been able to talk at all, an he was high as a kite with morphine, but we had a little chat, and then he fell asleep and I have left him in Intensive Care, 1on 1 nursing, for the night. Tomorrow he will go into High Dependency 1 to 2 and then hopefully into his own room Wednesday and home Saturday.
Thank heavens it's all over at last. I'm just off to collapse now.

I have been checking your blog all morning. Thanks for posting, when I am sure you have a million other things to do; I am relieved to hear that he has come round. Now to make him behave and do what the doctors recommend.
ReplyDeleteThanks heavens it is over - it's been a long and stressful wait. Now it's a week of recovery in the hospital and finally you can move on to other things. I hope you can sleep well tonight!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting C, I'm so pleased he's had the operation and great news that his palour is much improved immediately, that speaks volumes eh?
ReplyDeleteSleep well, HDU is scary, but the nursing care in there is A1, I'll keep sending my get well vibes.
xx
Thank goodness!! What great news to hear that his color is so good already.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, though, what an ordeal with the anesthesia. I didn't realize that could be a problem.
Sounds like he is in excellent hands, so you can get some rest. Take care and please send Allan my best. I'm hoping he'll have a speedy recovery.
Glad to hear all is well, apart from the anesthetic issue. Sounds like he is definitely in good hands there, hope you can rest easy now

I have slept over ten hours straight through! I wanted to ride this morning but it's raining and I want to hack out without any stress, so that's off the agenda. I'll have to see if I can blag a coffee from a friend instead.

Thank goodness that is over, get well soon Alan x
ReplyDeleteAll's well today and he was very alert and chatty - and demanding :-) !! He looks so well, it is amazing. The drains are all out and he is back in his own room tonight, the cleaner was just finishing it off as I left. He's eaten one half of a slice of toast, well it's better than nothing I suppose? I think one of the drips is glucose, so he isn't going to die of starvation any time soon. He's determined to be out of there as soon as he can. It will be a problem stopping him from doing too much, as the nursing staff are already finding out - that's my boy!

That made me smile, they'll be tying him down to make him rest by the sounds of things!

Wow, he really is made of strong stuff, fantastic that he has come through it all so well. I think they will be tying him down as well either that or asking you to take him home so you can deal with him!
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSo glad Alan is doing well and that you're OK - I think this sort of thing can be more stressful for the nearest and dearest as they don't have access to the morphine!
ReplyDeleteI told you, you're going to get back more husband that you bargained for ;-)
ReplyDeleteBlooming brilliant news C, keep up on your sleep, you're going to need it.
Glad it all went well.
ReplyDeleteTHanks guys :-)
