Now a Virus

I womanhandled  SH to the doc this morning because he was coughing all night with a virus. Doc gave him 7 days penecillin cover so it doesn't settle as a bacterial infection on his chest like a virus normally would with him. That would be a nightmare, because we'd lose our operating date - NO!

I took Ace out for a hack. He didn't really want to go, he just wanted to stay with the others. But with a bit of a grump, off we went. He was a lumpy bumpy baby today, jogging and fussing, but nothing silly. What was silly was the driver of a huge Somerfields delivery lorry using Satnav on a single track country road. Ace was wonderful, completely calm and not at all worried by it as we tucked into a gateway and let it go past. Just as well I had my L plates on though, otherwise the driver might not have been quite so considerate. We were also both head to toe hi viz, which helps a lot too.

Buttie has a muzzle at night now. I had one for Jazz three years ago and to my huge surprise the straps went short enough for Buttie. The bucket is big, but it doesn't seem to matter, it fits nicely on his face and he isn't unhappy about it. We'll see if he gets any ribs back in view anytime soon, eh? I'll try and get a picture of Butts tomorrow, he does look sweet in it :-)  I snuck him a little haylage today when the others had run out of theirs, it seemed only fair if he only has a 1 inch hole to eat through overnight.

  1. Oh no! About the cough. Always a worry just when you have things set up to go. Hopefully SH will be just fine.

I don't quite know why drivers don't seem to think a horse on the road is a potentially dangerous situation. Around here, it's downright scary. People are supposed to slow down to 25 MPH and obey any hand signals from the handler, but hardly anyone knows the law.

  2. The antibiotics seem to be doing something. At least he is not getting any secondary infections. I'm pretty sure he did actually have one, but part of the condition is that he is cold all the time (not enough oxygen to heat him up), so his temperature at the doc's was normal. Since it is normally 2 degrees or so low, he was in fact running a fever! Not that the doc realised that :-)
