So much for the physio!

I'm so cross. I only called a physio to check out Radar because I was so upset about not knowing what was going on with Jazz. There was nothing wrong with either of them yesterday morning and Ace was brilliant in his lesson on Satuday.

This morning, Ace came in as stiff as a board, clearly in pain with a rigid back where the physio had manipulated it. I left him til this afternoon and then massaged it free, and did the exercise that she told me to do on him. I put his saddle on and he did not seem to mind so I tried to ride him gently. He was fine in walk, it actually felt lovely and stretched but he absolutely refused to trot. He would clearly have bucked me off if I had tried to make him. I got off and put him on the lunge to see what was going on, and he squealed and bucked on one rein and then turned and kicked  at me on the other rein. I was suspicious that he might do that, so he only just brushed my hand as I was already out of his way. But he's a very unhappy boy.

I have, of course, put a message out for the physio to ask her what to do now, but it looks like it will be several days before he will be happy to be ridden and I can't now go to my competition tomorrow and have also lost £22 in fees. That's not a big deal, but it is irritating to lose the money and very disappointing not to be going.

I feel like I can't win! I called a physio for all the right reasons and she has hurt my horse. She did not expect him to be stiff or sore today, she told me to ride him but not to do 10m circles. I don't know what she's done. I don't know if she even did anything "wrong" and  it is actually her fault, but it is certainly because of what she did.

Cross and disappointed are just two of many words to describe how I feel tonight.

  1. Oh dear. This is really upsetting.

I don't know what your physio's qualifications are, so I cannot comment on what happened. I hope she knows what she is doing.

I use a licensed vet who does both acupuncture and chiropractic. The only time I had a massage done was years and years ago, and PJ was not particularly going well the next day, so I kind of scratched that therapy off my list.

Acupuncture is amazing on horses. Are there any vets there that do it? It might be the quickest way to get Ace going again.

Sad about the show and always a bummer about the fees. At least Ace let you know he was uncomfortable and didn't try to work through it. Then you might have had a dreadful ride and struggle with him.

He's expressive, like Tucker, and you have learned to listen to him. Kudos for you! Hope Ace's recovery is swift and sure.

  2. ...not to mention that you paid her, in addition to losing show entry fees. I wonder if other people have had similar experiences with this physio.

  3. £75 ML :-( I paid her to hurt my horse! Jean it is so lucky that he lets me know as kindly as he can that he is in trouble. He had every right to dump me in the dirt.

I'm even more mad now! About to post to tell you why.
