Well, not Radar himself, that would have been very messy :) but his foot. He had a fairly obvious little pocket on the bulb of his heel when I got in from working this afternoon, and a little encouragement with the point of a sharp pair of scissors and bingo, a spurt of pus straight into my eye. Smashing!
I've pumped it full of hydrogen peroxide 3%, as I always do with a foot abscess, and I will keep that up until there is no hole to put it in.
He's such a robust chap that he was hardly lame at all today, and I will be quite surprised if he wouldn't enjoy a nice walk out on a hard road tomorrow. If he is nearly sound with surface from the barn packed up into his foot then he should be completely sound on a flat road with clean feet. If not, it won't be long before he and I are back at our adventures.
Ace will also be working tomorrow. He seems to be completely back to normal, which for me proves that this was something the physio did to temporarily upset his nerves and not something that he did to his muscles in the field overnight, because I would not expect that to recover so quickly. Fingers crossed that she has not done him any permanent damage or left his with longlasting expectation of it hurting to have a saddle on.
We are promised some summer weather with a settled high for a few days. I do so hope we get it. We have had 3 months in which a whole year's rain has fallen, and we will be desperate if we do not get some summer before we have to face winter again.

Ace will probably have a permanent aversion to physios :-) I agree that it was not something he did in the field just for your reasons. At least, though, you have had the opportunity to develop your strategy for keeping his back happy by rugging more than other horses.
ReplyDeleteGlad that Radar has popped! :-)
Fingers crossed for summer weather. Actually I will try to send some warm, dry weather your way - we have too much! I am looking forward to fall.
Please, ML, just few days without rain .... and above 15c would be nice if you can manage it.

Glad to hear Radar's abscess blew. Hope your eye is OK.
ReplyDeleteGood news too about Ace. And I agree with you and MaryLou about its not being a pasture accident.
Now we are having cool, wet weather. It is a welcome change from the ferocious heat of the weekend, however, so I don't mind at all. But you guys deserve a break and some dry days to enjoy. Summer slips by so quickly. It would be a shame if you didn't get to spend some nice days outside in the sunshine.
Sun! Wow, we've got summer here today :-)))
ReplyDeleteI'm just off out to take advantage of it Jean, both eyes working fine :-)
