It was nearly 30c out hunting today. In October! We swealtered and I was so glad that I had clipped Radar right out. So it was a long slowish day, but we still got a few good hedges in. He pulled a bit on the first leg and completely messed up the first hedge, catching his legs in the timber in front of it and giving us both a scare on landing. I'm not sure how much the thought of £17.50 to replace a gas bottle helped me stay on, but it certainly didn't hinder! I put his bit up a hole at the check and he was a lot nicer for the rest of the day. It may have been pressing on his sores, perhaps. He bit his tongue down both sides, though, I found it when we got home. Silly boy!
No arena picture today because it looks no different. It's actually about two feet lower, but that won't show in a flat picture. He was out there at 7 again and he hasn't stopped yet tonight.
I am absolutely shattered, I doubt if I'll be able to stay awake til bedtime.

Close call, there. Glad you both worked it out--a tribute to Radar's athleticism, I should think.
ReplyDeleteClipping was indeed a good idea. Wish he wouldn't mess up his mouth like that. He needs to learn to chill out....kind of...
Its ridiculously hot here, 29 degrees with a winter coat is no joke, thank god you'd done a full clip. Glad you stayed on board, well done.
ReplyDeleteI'm trialling a dressage saddle this week, horse uncomfortable in her normal saddle now I'm asking her to engage and lift more, we'll see what the difference is - she's notoriously difficult to fit, so it might be a long and tortuous journey!
have you ever tried a WOW Tracey?? You may hate them, I can't remember, but they are good for difficult to fit horses.
ReplyDeleteHe ate well today Jean, so he's not feeling any mouth problem, I don't think. He definitely eats slowly when he's sore.
