Two again!

Life will be normal soon at this rate. I rode two again today.

Jazz was lacking in bounce in canter left, which is usually his better canter but it is on the side of the hock with the bigger lump. I tried sending him on, but that did nothing to help. Then  I tried canter/walk/canter and then canter/halt/canter which would normally set him back on his hocks and get him jumping through, but that failed too. He was lacking bend and setting on both my hands, but particularly the left. I fixed him in the end by putting him down and round (not rollkur, but definitely overbent and stretched right over his back) and leading him into a circle with the left rein outwards and downwards too. He got it then, but it had been a lot of effort for  him to get there so that's all we did.

Ace is interesting now that I am beginning to teach him new stuff. He's certainly only been prepared for sale, and not for a dressage career. He has just about understood shoulder in in walk, which probably took him about twice as long to learn as Jazz at that age. Today I introduced transitions within the pace in trot, and he was completely flummoxed. He simply didn't understand that there is more than one speed of trot, and that you can slow down and speed up within it. He felt like he was saying "what do you want me to do that for? Make your blinkin' mind up what you want, will you?"  I also started to introduce walk to canter, and he did get the idea of that reasonably well for a first attempt.

Clockwork hubby worked well today too - we did a complete one of our normal exercise walks for the first time, and he feels fine and his heart was steady even under the pressure of walking up some pretty steep hills (slowly). I know that the docs would feel that he is doing too much too soon. But they cannot see how well he is, and also I am a firm believer with horses and humans that state of mind is just as important to health as anything. It has been vital to his state of mind to get back to "normality" as soon as he was physically able. I think it's done him no end of good.

  1. Three good boys, from the sound of it, since I don't think Jazz was naughty...maybe muscle sore? <y PJ used to get that way and simply could not work when he was. Noting that, on the plus side, it seems Jazz still tried, even though he just didn't "have it," this time.

Ace's lack of comprehension is kind of cute. He's kind of like one of those teenage boys in class who's just kind of growing into his body and his brain hasn't caught up yet.

And CH is shining. I agree about trying to get back to normal as soon as possible. Hopefully, of the three Boys he has the most common sense about how far to push himself.....h-m-m-m-m-m-m.
