I've got a new horse.

I went out for a hack on my new horse. It looks just like Ace, but it certainly doesn't feel like him.

Then I schooled Radar. The weather forecast is for two hours of heavy rain just when we would be setting off. With the hunt now laying scent with a runner, the checks are too long to sit around in a wet saddle and a wet coat with water dripping down the back of your neck off your hat. So he was thrilled to do circles instead, and sure enough it's now twelve thirty, meet time,  and the rain is bang on forecast.

When the rules are changed to let me where a riding raincoat, I'll take more risks with the weather. Meanwhile, I'll stay a fairweather hunter.

I've now plugged the hole in Radar's foot with wax impregnated with pine resin. It smells gorgeous, and is supposed to be an effective antiseptic. Now all we have to do is wait for him to grow a new thickness of sole under the hole.

He was unimpressed with schooling, but I enjoyed myself out in the fresh air :-)

  2. Congratulations on the new horse! *S*

As for the hunting, smart move to stay home. I've been soggy in the saddle myself and, to tell the truth, there is not much more miserable an experience. A raincoat helps, of course, but even then I've had my tall boots fill up.

The pine resin should help a lot. Do let me know how long it lasts. The hoof packings I've used in the past don't seem to stick in there very long.

    1. It's in a tunnel that is covered with a 'lid' of sole, so I'm hopeful.
