Good news - Radar's much worse!

Now I know that does not sound much like good news, but it is. It makes it very unlikely that there is anything wrong with his foot but a second abscess, particularly as the heel of his foot. Is now very warm. I fully expect it to pop open at the weekend. It should then be easy to clear it.

Ace was a star today. I didn't want to ride him on the arena because of my nerves. But it was such a calm, still day that I made myself. He was the best he has been. Really quiet and gentle, and beginning to produce some really forward and springy trot. I  cantered as well and he was lovely.

I didn't think there could be much more increase in movement to come, but his free walk that we end on loosened another notch today and feels extraordinary. My only problem is that even on the arena, his shoulders are now pushing the saddle back too far!

  1. Strangely enough, I do understand the good news. It's the kind of thing only another horseperson would comprehend. Hopefully the abscess will pop and you'll be done with all the problems.

Ace continues to progress. I think most of the tantrums have a logical cause and once you can sort that out, you can either avoid them or find a good strategy to cope. Once again, his real, sweet nature took over and you had a great ride.

  2. And tonight Radar's come in nearly sound with a much lower pulse, so it's made room for itself again. He's got a suspicious squishy spot at the end of his frog where it joins into his heel.

I am learning that Ace cannot be pushed, he must be allowed to go forward in his own time. He's the same hacking and on the arena, too much leg makes him resistant. It's easy to avoid :-)

  3. :-) good news all round.

but abscesses are so horrid to deal with, especially when they're starting and you think that's what it is and then start second guessing yourself....
