I survived!

We actually got to go out hunting, and I survived. Not only that, but the weather was absolutely lovely and Radar and I really enjoyed ourselves.

It was far from a classic hunt, we did not get to jump at all, and what few fields we did skirt around the margins of were fetlock deep in mud or water. Most of the time we all stayed on the roads, which made it quite bizarre. The Huntsman put the hounds onto the scent (laid by a lightweight man at this hunt) and then left them to it and hacked up the road to where he could pick them up again. Very unusual and strangely good fun to watch them stream away across country all by themselves.

It was just what we needed. Nothing too strenuous for either of us after our long, long layoff. We were out nearly four hours and I am tired in a very satisfied way, as I think Radar is too.

Next week we will be ready for some fences, unless we get the deep freeze that is being forecast.

  1. Perfect sounding day. I like "fetlock deep', I am going to start using that instead of "ankle deep" when referring to humans.

Talk about a deep freeze... it's going to -4F (-20C) tonight! Tetley has two rugs on and he had his "tea" warmed with hot water. I ran this morning at around -12C. Thankfully no wind. I hope you don't get temps as cold as that.

    1. That's COLD! The lowest we have ever had was -15c and people were warned not to go out in it! You went for a RUN at minus TWELVE???? You mad crazy woman.

  2. Perfect return to the field for you. Not too taxing, and yet lots of riding in the fresh air. Glad Radar didn't mind the non-jumping outing too, but I guess he enjoys the socializing and exercise regardless.

Might be a deep freeze on the way here too, but the weather patterns are really erratic. Tomorrow is supposed to be quite warm, so I may take Tucker's sheet off and sew it back together. Then I'll have to get out the winter blankets if anticipation of some Arctic air--which may or may not get here. *sigh*

Keep warm and get some rest. I should think your good mood will help heal you better than any medicines.
