Fizz bomb :-)

I have been avoiding riding  Ace on the arena while I have felt so weak, because I thought there was a high chance that he would be a bit fizzy. I was right!   I got on and he went skipping off across the arena, bucked a few circles, then stood on his back feet bouncing the front end on the spot. It was all just high spirits, nothing that was actively trying to get me off, but he almost managed by accident. He was a very good boy and allowed me to walk him gently round for  quite a while for us both to settle down, then we did some trot circles.

I am so, so pleased that we did not hurry him as a younger horse. He is so huge now, and only just growing into his own frame. The difference in the way he is trotting now from a year ago is enormous. He was always extremely attractive to watch and light on his feet, but he has now added genuine power to that lightness and I can tell you that it is just A - MAY - ZING !  I am looking forward to developing that power this year.

I didn't canter, I wasn't up for the potential risk and it had also started to rain and I still had Radar to do, but we finished on such a good note we were both pleased with ourselves.

Radar and I went out for a hack. He was head-nodding and skipping on the right fore all the way down the hill and I was making plans to hunt Woody instead of him, but at the bottom where it flattened out I sent him on and he was perfectly sound. I think he was just napping back to the others, they are all a bit clingy at the moment.

I'm feeling  a lot stronger today and I don't rule out riding Woody inside later today. He looked at me today as if he would have liked to work for me, which was lovely after his reaction yesterday.

  1. What a nice feeling it must be to know you've done right by Ace. "Fizzy" is fine as long as it doesn't escalate too much. He does sound like a powerful boy.

Glad Radar was OK. I'm not surprised if your little gang is a bit herdbound at times. They do seem to get along well together.
