Surely I've posted since Wednesday?

Have I really not posted since Wednesday?

I rode Ace on Thursday to make sure Wednesday's tantrum was mental, not physical, and sure enough he was a lovely boy. I also schooled Jazz and hacked Radar on Thursday, so I've  been busy! Friday I was working, no-one got ridden. Yesterday (Saturday), I gave Radar a long hack and had to use the draw reins a lot of the time, he was far too full of himself. I also schooled Jazz and he had some trouble doing 10m circle left, and would not stay forward into my left hand. Today I did it again out on the fields and he was perfect, though the surface was very uneven. They never choose the easy way, do they? Ace had a short school yesterday (walk to canter is really coming on) and a short hack today. He behaves, but he is very "back to home" thinking and does not yet swing along nicely. It will come in time and with more confidence. Meanwhile I am happy that the napping has ended and I can tolerate a little backward thinking as long as it does not translate into whipping round to go home.

Everyone is out at night without a muzzle except the little fat boy. Ace is better on stones and not having any problems with the grass that I can see. His feet are looking better and better. Jazz is almost back to normal on the very stony path, and I have taken him and Radar off the charcoal. Ace will stay on it while I have got it, but when it runs out (midwinter) I will not replace it, as I think his improved diet and the yea-sacc in the haylage balancer have set him up nicely now. I hope by next year that he will be a lot more able to tolerate spring grass.

Jazz is booked in for medium 63 on Wednesday, so we are looking forward to that.

  1. Good good, and glad you've got another outing this week. Good luck with that and the lovely Jazz.

I took my freebie mare to her first ODE today, since I've been having my classical dressage lessons she's really progressed mentally and chilled out. To my surprise we came 8th, 32 dressage, clear SJ and just one stop XC. I'm over the moon with this, but it means I'll have to take them both to ODEs now!!!

  2. One foot on each Tracey. If Joe Turi could do it, so can you !

It was one of the most exciting things I've ever seen, Turi juming two grade A's over a metre fence at the same time, with one foot on each horse.

    Well done today!

  3. Glad to hear Ace is back to his sweet self. Sooner or later that horse will attend a show. *G*

Jazz is going to star in his competition. He's the grown up boy, now.

Happy also with the news about everyone's feet and the grazing situation--except for fatty boy Butty. I guess you've managed to keep his muzzle on? I've lost track at this point.

  4. Another lesson first Jean, Thursday afternoon.

Buttie has rubbed a hole clean through the top half of the muzzle plate! I have put another plate of plastic inside, which is working for the moment, and a new muzzle arrived in the post today.
