I'm not riding Vesuvius any more, I'm going to go back to putting him out with a muzzle on overnight and use boots if he's footie. I just can't cope with the feeling that he's going to go off like Vesuvius for the first 15 minutes of every ride. He doesn't explode, he just bucks and skips a bit, but it's not comfortable at my age and I don't like it!
I'm also struggling with Buttie's weight. If I feed Ace and the other boys what they need, Buttie is getting too much. I put a muzzle on him in the barn last night, but for a start, Ace took it off him. And second, it feels so mean because it's very difficult to eat haylage in a muzzle.
So I give up, they are all going out in about ten minutes time.
After the first 15 minutes this morning I got some very good work out of Ace, finishing on some very nice walk shoulder in. And Jazz was a real sweetheart today, and did four perfect flying changes in a row, one on each diagonal and then a 3 loop serpentine, all without dropping the canter either. I was going to do some trot half pass but I decided to stop when we were still enjoying ourselves. I was rewarded by watching it tip down with rain as I untacked him!
SH has been signed off by the consultant and is now jogging 3 miles!!! He's superhuman, obviously.

As noted yesterday, no turnout is really a disaster waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteBut what great fun with Jazz! He is a superstar.
And Superhubby? Truly a wonderful and gratifying outcome after all that worry and frustration. I bet he feels really amazing now. Send him my best.
That is great news about Superhubby, simply amazing progress. Big thank you to doctors!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to balance feed, exercise, foot health, talk about stressful.
Jazz is working amazingly well, Have you any competitions to go to soon?
That is very, very good news on SH!!! What a relief that it is all over!
ReplyDeleteVesuvius - yeah, I am too old for that kinds of stuff too. Hopefully everyone will cope with being out overnight. There is only so much that one can do.
I was thinking today how late it is light there. Even in Cambridge it was light until, oh about 10 at night, so must be longer where you are.
Well I don't know if it will last Jean. He's only ben out one night, in a muzzle which stayed on, and I saw him take a bad step as I turned him out just now :-( Let's hope it was just a one-off or I'm going to be lunging before I ride each time. What a faff that would be.

It's light all night here at the moment ML, further north and higher up both keep it lighter.
