Flying again.

Well that's the mark of a great hunter, isn't it? Radar and I took a crashing fall last week, and did it change the way he went today? - not one bit. He has been flying. Getting every take-off spot on and rock solid on every landing. We were never in danger of parting company today and we jumped a number of five footer hedges.

The pub we were at gave us a great start by coming out with a trayful of bacon butties with a glass of port each too. I've never experienced that before in my hunting career, and if was very welcome at ten in the morning.

He was a very good boy today too. He spent the majority of most of the runs bowling along keeping pace with the others but not pulling. Now and then he did do a pretty violent dive of the head and a right-left shake when the dive did not get the reins released, but in comparison to previous years he is allowing himself to be controlled by me much more easily.

He still bites his tongue, which is accompanied by a spurt of bright red blood which looks horrendous, but there is absolutely nothing that I can do about that. But he is not breaking open his bars, which worries me far more than a bitten tongue because the bit sits on it. This is the first year that he has hunted where he has not seriously hurt his own mouth by pulling so much. Growing up at last?

He has a huge fanclub because of his impressive War Horse looks and his love of jumping big things. I'm No. 1   :-)

  1. What good news! Neither one of you lost your nerve and Radar seems to be coming into his own more and more each ride.

Bummer about his tongue. Sounds like he needs one of those mouth guards the athletes use. Wonder if they come in horse size? *G* Other than that, he is being a superstar.

So glad to hear everyone admires him so. You have every right to be proud.

  2. Have to admit my nerve was bolstered by a little port Jean, but he was so great I'm not sure I needed it after all.
