Back on board!

Ace has had a little hack along the road and back and was bouncing. He insisted on trotting where he normally trots and he was sound on the first diagonal. I swapped diagonals fully expecting to feel the difference and I couldn't. He is genuinely completely sound under saddle. I even rode him back up the very steep hill to home because he was givign no sign at all that he was finding it a problem. Whew, it seems impossible but are we really back to normal?

radaR has schooled with considerable ill grace in the rain. In spite of himself he has done some good work though. I just wish it took him less than half an hour each time to realise that it is not his decision which direction, or at what speed, we head in and that he must hold himself ready for a change of instruction at any time. At the moment, any turn or transition sends him rocketing forwards and any anticipation of a turn coming up - approaching the boards, say - and he freezes rigid.  Still, he's a challenge, and fun because of it. He  means no ill will, he'd just prefer to see a line of hedges, that's all :-)

I'm looking forward to waking up tomorrow and hope we'll have the weather for Ace to do a bit of arena work. Tally ho!

  1. Getting back in the saddle on another good horse is doing wonders for you. So happy to hear Ace is sound again.

And, good to hear that RadaR is actually considering where the capital letter on his name actually belongs. If you can get it to the front for the arena schooling, I'll give him an extra "A." Then he'd be Raadar!

  3. Doubly good news that Ace is sound and he didn't spend the ride trying to buck you off. It must feel so good to have a "normal" day with just the routine challenges. May you have many more!

    1. You can see why the ancient Chinese curse is "may you live in interesting times", can't you ML. I spent a month just praying for life to be just run of the mill.

  4. Very good news, but if the weather with you is anything like the weather with us, you won't have been schooling outside(!)...

    1. We have a fraction of what you are reported to be getting and I'm not going out there in that!

  5. Very happy for your that Ace is better, what a relief.

Thinking of all that has happened with yours, I have been extra nice and appreciative of my horse this past week.

Went for a ride this morning in the rain, but it was better than this afternoon, when it has been pouring. After living out for a month I have been forced to bring in my two as they are trashing the field.

  6. Hiya, been absent for a day or two. Your vet bills were rather sizeable, but like you, that's what we save for and I agree on the insurance point completely, but for me its the fact that you stay in control when you're not insured, its what you want, and not what the insurance company wants to happen. I couldn't go back to that situation again now, and I see it with customers on a daily basis, its maddening.

Great to hear that Ace has bounced back, and that Radar's transition to dressage diva is progressing well. Horrendous weather for June, I hope you can continue in your indoor whilst its upon us.

    Take care

    1. I know what you mean Tracey. The insurers would have wanted him kept on box rest until Wednesday and as it was I was riding on Wednesday and he was all the happier for it.

  7. Not riding today!!! Heavens, the WEATHER - I can hardly stand outside myself for the wind and the rain is just a sheet on the windows, not identifiable drops.
