Oh please, someone give me back a horse who like schooling! Radar has just made it perfectly clear that he thinks walk is for cissies and circles are for dorks. Three quarters of an hour of square circles, wriggling, running, dropping back, sighing, huffing, puffing .... and then the most perfect walk a horse can do. It is so comfortable for us both when he does it you wonder why it takes him so, so, so long! I wouldn't subject him to it, only I know it will make him easier to control when we hunt next season.
The two of them went completely beserk in the field last night and I was
very worried what I would find this morning, but they came belting up
the field when I called them, both terribly pleased with themselves :-)
Ace is very, very nearly sound on the lunge. You can only see it when he is on a larger circle and the injury is to the outside. When it's on the inside, or he is on a circle of only 10 metres and it is to the outside, he seems to be totally sound. It is not yet 2 weeks since he was hopping lame on it, so things are looking really good. The antibiotics ended tonight. He hasn't had bute for three days. I've cancelled the vet follow-up visit on Wednesday because there is nothing for her to see and I don't need to spend £50 having a vet tell me that my horse is fine!!

radaR is very stubborn, but I have a feeling if anyone is going to convince him to change his ways, it will be you. If he would only understand that going well on the flat will make the jumping so much more fun in the end.
ReplyDeleteStill wonder if some jumping gymnastics, where his good going on the flat would pay off with good jump or two might make him see the light.
Sending you vibes of determination to win him over to the light. *G*
Good news again about Ace. He's making a good recovery and I agree about the vet's not coming.
I'm not sure it's going to happen Jean, he's been like it for three years so far. The work he ends up doing gets better and better but it doesn't take any less time to get him there. It's a shame, because he really does have the paces to do dressage, especially his canter and walk. I would have enjoyed doing a bit with him this summer. I think we are going to have to teach him to showjump instead.
