A tale of two horses II

Two different ones today.

Ace was a sweetie, didn't bat an eyelid at the new 10m white markers that I had put all around the arena.  He worked well for me and was a good boy in the bright spring sunshine. If he carries on in this fashion I'll be able to stop wearing the air jacket soon.

Radar was a *********, supply your own favourite word. All he wanted to do was run. It took over half an hour to get a nice relaxed and rythmic walk where I could ask for a change of bend without him running off.  I didn't have any time  left to do it all again in trot, so we went straight to canter to get some calorie burning  exercise into him. The canter was quite good, but after having done walk to canter to the left, he kept doing disunited and/or completely wild transitions to the right. In the end I halted him and did halt to canter. To my surprise, he managed it well. As hoped for, it got him set back on his hocks much better and some decent self-carriage canter circles were the result.

Jazz is still basking in the glory of three-time temp changes yesterday :-)

  1. I guess Radar just thrives in the hunt field and wilts in the arena. But the arena work is so good for him--you will just need patience.

Good for Ace. Maybe you are right about his not being happy in the cold weather. Interesting.

    1. If he starts the bucking again next winter, Jean, I plan to have him thermographed to see if he has issues anywhere.
