Friday.
Disastrous. Snow, sleet, frozen, high wind.
Saturday.
Driving rain. Sleet. Arena frozen . So much water the roads flooded and so did my stable yard. Hunt in that? Beginners meet with no serious jumps? No way!
Sunday.
Fine morning, went for a walk. Got home to ride - ferocious north wind enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey (not a rude expression, a seafaring term my Dad used to use, it's about cannon ball holders (brass monkeys) on a cannon)
Monday.
Finally forced myself to take Radar up to a friends house for breakfast, so at least he has had a good bit of exercise today. Promised myself I would ride the other two after lunch but it started to rain and then I thought that if I rode this afternoon in the barn what would I do tomorrow? So only Radar has been done after all.
Tomorrow.
Who knows? The forecast is dry. It was dry for today too. So much for the forecast.
End of the week
Forecast is temperatures in the high teens! Crazy!!
So sorry. It's been really nice here. Now I feel guilty for not riding more.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what's worse, a winter that teases with a bunch of nice days, and then "attacks" or one that's just miserable the whole time.
Trouble with the "teaser" is just what's happening to you--you get a horse fit, and then have to let him down and it just becomes a rollercoaster of frustration.
Wishing you better weather with clear skies and warmer temperatures.
Aarrgg - now you know why some people in the US take their horses to Florida for the winter.
ReplyDeleteSo I had one day of riding outside, a bit slippery but not bad. Today the wind was howling but I rode outside anyway because the indoor was crowded and dusty. My fingers froze despite winter gloves.

ReplyDeleteHope the thaw is with you.. We had 14°C yesterday.. pretty unheard of for Feb in North Highlands (normal is more like 3 - 4°C, well below zero is common).. Spring is on its way.. was watching the news last night and Draught has been declared in Midlands, E Anglia and SE.. whilst we have had phenomenal rainfall .. all summer, most of autumn and most of the winter.. its only just drying out now.
