Dear me! It was very cold, but that really isn't enough of an excuse for Ace today. He bucked and he bucked and he bucked. When he threw in a rear for good measure, I got off and went and fetched my air jacket. Then I got on with sorting him out. It was only napping, I think, as he was constantly trying to turn back to the stables, so I stuck at it and made him do some nice trot and canter circles on each rein. It took a long time to get him to realise that he wasn't going to bully me into submission. He's been throwing his weight around with Jazz lately too, I think he is feeling like a big strong boy!
Jazz was a lot better. He did some great flying changes, half pass into flying change, trot half pass, but was a bit sticky with the medium trot. We never really did get the front end lift I needed, but we ran out of light and energy.
No pony spinning today, I was too cold to wait outside and watch him run around keeping warm!

Oh my! I have to admire your not being intimidated by Ace's behavior. I fear my days of riding out the bucks are limited. Guess I would have put the driving rig on and given him a good longlining lesson and then gotten back on. Kudos.....
ReplyDeleteWho would have expected the day when Jazz would be the star of the barn? *S*
I was mighty intimidated Jean but I didn't see how I could let him win a napping contest without creating more problems for next time :-( I won't be looking forward to getting on him tomorrow!

Usually, when that happened with either Toby or Tucker, a good ground driving session fixed it fine. But both of them had had extensive ground work as an introduction to riding, so to them there wasn't much difference in the needed "work ethic" and ground discipline translated easily to the saddle.
ReplyDeleteJust take care and put that vest on as a matter of course. Gotta admire a horse that athletic, but that just makes choosing those aerial evasions much more likely.
Any chance ulcers are kicking up again? Just keep in in the back of your mind of this becomes more routine than not. Could be he's a little sore somewhere too. Or....as you are thinking just his youthful ego looking to boost his esteem in the herd. *sigh* "Teenagers...."
Got a tale about the vest Jean!
DeleteI'm just about to write it.
