The joy is back!

Woo hoo riding is fun now!

Radar just flew round the farm ride as his first jumping preparation for hunting in just over a month's time. He stood shaking while I was tacking him up from the excitement of knowing where he was and what we were about to do. He wanted to gallop all the way round and I had to make him walk or trot instead.  It did tire him by the end, but he was still pretty fit and is almost ready to hunt.

And Ace - he has regained all his bounce. His paces have come right back to the best they have ever been. Massive suspension, huge stride length. His back is definitely better and we are both enjoying a less "submissive" way of training. If it gives us worse scores in competition it'll be too bad, I just love riding him when he's like this!

  1. What great news! Don't give up on schooling Radar, though. I have a feeling it's going to make a huge difference in his hunting style.

As for Ace..well that's super news. So good to hear that he is physically recovered and the new mental approach is making you both happier.

If riding can't be fun, then what's the point in doing it? Love to read the smile's back on your face.

He's also so healthy that you can almost see your face in his shine.

    1. He does it early in the hunting season Tracey but I'm not used to seeing him do it at the Farm Ride. But he knew where he was and just stood there shaking while I tacked him up. We had a great time and it started raining after we got back, just to prove it was meant to be fun today :-)

  3. Radar seems to be as loose as a jelly today. I, on the other hand, am as stiff as a board :-)

I've just had a quiet hack on Ace in some sudden sunshine. He was spooky but is getting less reactive in his spooks, now he just drops back behind the bit and I have to send him on.

Must go, got some stuff to do outside while this sun lasts.

  5. Glad to have met you, you are an inspiration as a barefoot eventer. My two girls are at pony club on their barefoot ponies. They are doing fab, but the instructors ALWAYS comment that they are barefoot and thus they slip more...and use this against them and don't let them jump some of the bigger XC fences.. I was incensed today as my daughters know they can do the XC fences they've been refused permission to, as we have schooled over every one there ! Even the 3ft6 ones ! My eldest wants to seriously event next yr for the pony club teams but I feel I will be discriminated against as they won't be shod !!
