Mistimed!

I went for a walk this morning with SH and mistimed things completely - it poured down this afternoon. So for a second day in a row no-one got any work today. I have no excuse for yesterday, I just didn't get a round tuit.

All three have pulses at the moment, Ace by far the strongest. I was going to take Jazz and him to my test patch of picnic area carpark to check whether they are feeling any stones yet. As soon as one of them does, then I will get them in during the day. Sigh ...... I have SO enjoyed not needing to get up in the morning!

The one without pulses is Button - though of course he may simply have such thick hair on his legs that I can't feel them :-)   He is definitely solid on his feet though, as he trots out of the yard after the big boys. He and Ace have formed a partnership and they were playing together this morning as the other two slept in the corner of the croft (a small paddock used for marshalling sheep when you want to work on them. It's directly outside my lounge and bedroom windows.)

I hope to ride both big boys tomorrow. The forecast is good.

  1. You mean, you mean, you are not going to ride Button??? *JK*

I won't have enough grass here to worry about it. Don't know which way I'd rather have it, although a nice grassy pasture would be nice.

Looking forward to some nice weather for you instead of that wet stuff that just seems to keep on coming.

  2. The grass is definately coming through now, the whole place has greened up. Our wheat was like a barran waste land last week this week it is green and about three inches high. Time to take stock definately

  3. I haven't bought my roller skates yet Jean :-) I'd be happy with ten acres of sand - much easier to manage than that green stuff!

I didn't realise you had arable too Anne, you must be very busy!

  5. Mine are on full laminitis alert at the moment.
After being fine all winter, it all fell apart about 4 weeks ago.
Trimmer happened to stop by as I said horse was footy, but I couldn't find an explanation - nor could he because there were no clinical signs of LGL, but horse was quite footy on a hard surface. So, I shut down on area of grass, took out some things from the diet, but kept riding in boots as he was comfortable and after a week or ao of that is back to being OK again.
And he has lost weight, which was needed.

The grass had started to grow really quite early, as mine go out in the winter on an orchard that is fertilised every spring and I had just left it a bit too late. The weather was nice and warm even though it was only March.

  6. True farmers then Anne :-)

Judith I can't understand a friend of mine. Her horse has BIG pulses and she just doesn't want to believe it's the grass.

I messed up again today and it rained this afternoon when I was ready to ride, and perishing cold too. At this time of year it always seems so pointless to push yourself to ride when "tomorrow" is likely to be so much better. So no-one got ridden a-gain today. I WILL ride tomorrow ..... maybe.

  7. Was looking after a friend's (shod) horse last week for her. He came in one evening obviously lame in both front feet with raging pulses all round. It apparently can't be laminitis though because he's an Arab and they don't get it!!!! I've ended up having to walk away from the situation as nobody seemed inclined to take my observations seriously.

  8. It defies belief that they could be in such denial, doesn't it Liz? I tested both boys in work today on my standard patch of rubble car park and both were absolutely fine. I stopped their hard food a few days ago and I have got them leaner than most people's horses are these days, with ribs easily felt under the skin, but I think it's safer.

  9. That is interesting that you've stopped the hard feed on yours and are keeping them lean Caroline, I was thinking of going the same for my boy.
